Website checks

Trust starts with the details.

Your website should describe your services accurately, show the relevant quality information and handle enquiries with care. We make these details part of the brief.

What we review.

The checks depend on your service, location and website tools. We record what was assessed and which decisions need your team or adviser.

  • 6 areas reviewed
  • WCAG 2.2 AA agreed testing scope
  • Written launch record

Who you are

The identity and quality information people check first.

  • Business information

The trading identity, legal details and contact information applicable to your organisation.

  • Registration and ratings

For relevant services in England, the correct CQC location and current rating information. Other UK nations require the appropriate regulator and local rules.

How people use it

Journeys that work for everyone, on every device.

  • Accessible journeys

Headings, navigation, focus, contrast, forms and responsive layouts, with testing against an agreed WCAG 2.2 AA scope.

  • Practical security

Agreed controls for hosting, forms, administrative access and backups, with clear responsibility after launch.

Their information

How enquiries and visits are recorded and explained.

  • Privacy information

A notice matched to actual collection, use, suppliers and retention arrangements, reviewed by the responsible organisation.

  • Cookies and similar tools

An inventory of storage and tracking technologies, with appropriate consent or other applicable controls for the tools and purposes used.

Show the right information for the right service.

Where a rated CQC-regulated service must display its rating, the website needs a clear and accurate display linked to the relevant record. A new or unrated service must not be given an invented rating. Staffing businesses and other services should not be presented as CQC registered unless their actual activities and registration justify it.

Ask about your service

A documented handover.

The launch record should show the checks completed, known issues, supplier dependencies and owners of ongoing tasks. Your team approves service claims and organisation-specific policy wording.

Keep the website aligned with the service.

A website supports your operational responsibilities. It does not establish registration, certify the care you provide or replace your organisation’s data-protection decisions.

Not sure what applies to your service?

Tell us what you provide and where. We will go through the checks with you and note what needs your team or adviser.

Questions about checks

Will our site be fully compliant?

We avoid blanket promises. Your project should identify the requirements assessed, the testing completed, any limitations and the responsibilities that remain with your organisation.

Is CQC relevant everywhere in the UK?

CQC regulates relevant health and social care services in England. A UK-wide website needs to reflect the regulator and requirements applicable to each service and nation.

Can an accessibility score prove the website meets WCAG?

An automated score alone cannot establish conformance. The agreed checks should also include manual review of important pages and journeys.
